Did you know, cyberbullying is still a serious issue among online users today? Many admit that they have received hurtful messages and had nasty rumours about them being spread.
In conjunction of #StopCyberbullyingDay, we are sharing a few tips to help prevent online bullying among us and our children:
1. If you or someone you know is bullied online, do not respond to the bully! Reacting to hateful comments will only let the bully feel as if he is in control. Avoid more bullying by simply not responding even if you are being provoked.
2. Stop the harassment by blocking the bully from your social media. You are also advised to set your profile to private. This will make you less vulnerable to bullies.
3. Once you’ve identified the bully, immediately block and report them. This will allow the social platform’s authorities to review and remove the bully’s user id permanently from the platform.
4. If you have children, make sure you are aware of their online profiles and friends. Assure them that they can trust and talk to you whenever they encounter bullying. Give them solutions and be ready to give them your full support.
Though cyberbullying cannot be stopped or solved overnight, it is important that all of us play a role in preventing the issue. Don’t become a bystander; instead take action when bullying is detected. Let us all be responsible online and help keep the internet a safe place to play!
