Your Fave Vegetables and Fruits - Malaysian Edition

If you’re looking for a good excuse to munch on some yummy snacks, then take a look in your pantry and dig up some fruits and vegetables you see. Get creative and turn them into binge-worthy bites for your everyday afternoon snack! Here’s a bunch of ideas to inspire your next kitchen experiment:

 

Bananas - Pisang Goreng Cheese

One of our Malaysian guilty pleasures, pisang goreng. Great on its own but why not reward yourself a little more and take it up a notch! Grab a few bananas to deep fry and while it’s still hot, load up on the cheese and chocolate and let that melt for an oozy level of satisfaction.

 

Corn - Jagung Cawan or Corn in a cup

Super delicious, super easy to prepare and oh so good. Corn, butter, and some salt is all you need to make this perfect concoction of an addictive snack. If you have a sweet tooth, you can get creative by adding a spoonful of condensed milk or cream. And here’s a kernel of truth: one cup is never enough. 

 

Carrot - Carrot Bacon

Here’s one for all you TikTok enthusiasts, carrot bacon! A healthier alternative for meat-based bacon and we couldn’t help but to share this creation. All you need is a large carrot, garlic powder, smoked paprika, olive oil, maple syrup and a little special ingredient called liquid smoke. Cut the carrots into thin strips and marinade it in all the seasonings. Fry ‘em up and there you have it, carrot bacon. Trust us when we say it tastes like actual bacon. 

 

Mango - Mango Lassi Popsicles

It’s another hot day and you’re craving for a cold treat. Mango lassi popsicles is the way to go! It’s unbelievably easy to make and even easier to eat. Grab some mangoes and greek yoghurt from your local grocer, blend them up and pour it into a popsicle ice cream mould. Next step is patience but believe us, the wait is worth it. Once the popsicles are frozen solid, enjoy it to your heart's content. 

 

Pineapples and Cucumbers - Acar

Another one in our books is the almighty acar. The burst of flavours and freshness you get from the little amount of prep needed is what makes it another great afternoon snack. Cut up the pineapples and cucumbers into chunks, and for all you spicy lovers, add some chopped cili padi for that extra kick. Toss them all in some lime juice, honey, salt and pepper and it’s good to go...into your stomach. 

Chives - Chinese Chives Pancakes

Last but not least, chinese chives pancakes. Another highly recommended snack you can make with some leftover chives you may have in the kitchen. To make the pancakes, first chop up some dried prawns and stir fry until fragrant. Once that’s done, chop up the chives, some carrots and mix them into a bowl with your flour, egg, some water and the dried prawns. This makes the pancake batter that you can now pour into a pan to cook until brown and the edges are crisp. Enjoy it while it’s hot and don’t forget to share it with your family members too!
