Are you an avid user of Whatsapp? If you are, we’re here to share some important news you should know! On November 1, the messaging platform will stop supporting a number of older smartphone models, potentially leaving millions of people without access to messages, photographs, and videos from friends and family.
But on a brighter note (for most of you, we hope), WhatsApp also released an official statement stating that although 43 devices- both Android and iOS - will be unable to use the encrypted messaging service, they will continue to support mobile phones with Android 4.1 and iOS 10 (and higher) systems.
Want to know if your phone will be affected? Don’t worry, we got chu! Always. 😉 Here are the lists of the affected phones:
To top it off, a few other miscellaneous phones will also be discontinued which are:
Alcatel One Touch Evo 7, Archos 53 Platinum, HTC Desire 500, Caterpillar Cat B15, Wiko Cink Five, Wiko Darknight, Lenovo A820, UMi X2, Faea F1, and the THL W8.
Why are these changes happening you ask? It is due to the fact that WhatsApp has rolled out a slew of new features this year, including disappearing messages, group calls that can be joined, and stickers. It claims that by phasing out the compatibility for older phones, the app will run more securely.
