No doubt, 2020 has been quite a ride and we’re only halfway in. But on the bright side, one thing that we should be grateful for is the extra time we have to focus on ourselves and new hobbies! Even though we are going back to our new normal lives, let’s give these hobbies or activities a go (if you haven’t tried them out already!) to give you a boost and inspire you throughout the rest of the year.
1. Set a fitness challenge and a 2020 goal
The recent MCO period lasted for almost 3 whole months. And while many managed to stay fit through their home workouts (yes, I see everyone posting their post-workout pics), why not set yourself a challenge to try and test your limits? Try running every single day for at least 30 minutes. Or even just cycling and swimming? Continue staying active and you’ll see how far you can go.
Do stay safe as you head outside for any exercise activity. We urge you to practice social distancing!
2. Greens, greens and more greens.
While some of us are not exactly blessed with green thumbs, that doesn’t mean you’re not cut out to take care of one! Start with easy-to-grow plants such as Chlorophytum Comosum (Spider Plants) and Sansevieria Trifasciata (Snake Plants) that are impossible to kill, and you are already on your way to becoming a successful plant-parent. After all, it is scientifically proven that having more plants in your house can help lighten up your mood and promote a positive mindset.
3. Start journaling.
If you’re anything like me, you must’ve thought “How did 6 months go by so fast?”. With everything going on, it seems like time is moving way too fast. Before any more days slip by, get a blank notebook and start journaling your days. Writing can actually help you focus and keep track of your days. Whether it’s a to-do list or just random thoughts, a physical memo of words helps balance your mind and emotion.
4. Master a new language, or the language you already know.
As Malaysia is one of the most multiracial countries in the world, being able to speak different languages is actually very useful. From ordering food to random deep conversations, being able to express your thoughts in other languages can actually help you connect your words more accurately within one another. And you don't even need to hire a tutor! There are plenty of useful websites like Duolingo that helps teach you different languages from all around the world, including our own.
