Throwback To Your Favourite CNY Movies!

Happy Chinese New Year Subscribers!

It's that time of year again where families come together and celebrate the coming of a new year! Where food and snack are everywhere and eating is nonstop! Where we wish our aunties and uncles how 'beautiful' and 'handsome' they look in hopes of getting more angpows *wink*! 

But stay alert! CNY also brings along all those "Got boyfriend already or not" and "When getting married ah" questions!  Distract your aunties and uncles with some of the most famous and iconic CNY movies from your favourite actors!

 1. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World 富貴逼人 (1987)It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World.png

Released in 1987, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World is a Chinese New Year classic with some of the most iconic faces in TVB history. Starring Bill Tung, alongside Eric Tsang and Lydia Shum, this movie is one that everyone, including your aunties and uncles, will definitely know about!

2. Mr Coconut 合家欢 (1989)Mr Coconut.png

Another CNY classic to watch, Mr Coconut was released on 1989 starring one of the most famous comedians in Hong Kong's film industry, Michael Hui. The movie's a comedy that will have you laughing nonstop this CNY!

3. Journey To The West: Conquering The Demons 西遊·降魔篇 (2013)Journey to the west.png

The story of Journey To The West is one that every 90s kid will know about and Stephen Chow's comedic movie interpretation is a nostalgic moment for all. The movie shows the origins of the 3 famous characters from the story, Sha Wujing, Zhu Bajie and Sun Wukong.

4. Hello Babies 六福喜事 (2014)HELLO BABIES.png

One of the highest local grossing films in Hong Kong in 2014, Hello Babies is a funny CNY comedy directed by Vincent Kok which has done numerous famous films, including some on this list *wink*! The movie is about 2 old man and their battle against each other to see who can have a grandson first.

5. CZ12 十二生肖 (2012)CZ12.png

Only one man in this world can have the Guinness World Record for Most Stunts by a Living Actor, and that man is the one and only Jackie Chan. He was awarded the award after the shooting of this movie which showcases his acrobatic and parkour skills.

6. Shaolin Soccer 少林足球 (2001)SHAOLIN SOCCER.png

What do you get when you mix football/soccer and martial arts? You get an iconic CNY movie loved by all! Shaolin Soccer is another film that is also directed by Stephen Chow and has all his iconic movie traits. From slapstick humour to CGI shots, it has it all.

7. The God of Cookery 食神 (1996)GOD OF COOKERY.png

You can't seem to get away from Stephen Chow when it comes to CNY movies. 1996's The God of Cookery is a 92 minute film starring the man himself as he sets out to reclaim the title after he loses it.

8. Who Am I? 我是誰 (1998)Who Am I.png

Jackie Chan's 1998 film, Who Am I, follows a secret agent who has suffered from amnesia and is being hunted down by other agency operatives. A CNY movie packed with action, this is another iconic film that everyone in the family will know.
