2.  RT-PCR vs RTK-Ag tests

When people get tested for Covid, we often hear people take the RT-PCR test. What is the difference between RT PCR and RTK-Ag tests? Are both effective? Don’t worry, we got chu here.

RTK Antigen Test is a rapid test to detect specific antigens of SARS-CoV-2 in human saliva. Human Salivaaa? 🤔 Don’t worry, it is user-friendly! 🤤 But there are a few things that you should be aware of too. The Rapid Antigen Kit can produce a false-negative result if the sample was not taken properly and the concentration of the antigen is too low. Because of this, these tests should only be used for instant screening before you get a confirmatory test. According to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines, RTK-Ag testing is considered as a screening test and RT-PCR shall be used as a confirmatory test to define a COVID-19 case.

To get a confirmatory test, you need to take the RT-PCR test that is available in clinics and health labs in Malaysia. An RT-PCR test usually costs around RM190-RM240 and the results may take about 24 hours or even less!

P/S: Remember to rinse your mouth with water 30 minutes before conducting the test and avoid drinking anything other than water for more accurate results.

3. Salixium COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test

Salixium COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test that uses saliva and a nasal sample to detect the presence or absence of the SARS-CoV-2 antigen. Is it like the other swab tests that you see online? No, don’t worry! With this test kit, you only need to swab 2cm up your nostrils, gently.

Salixium COVID-19 Rapid Antigen test is by Reszon Diagnostic International Sdn Bhd Malaysia and it has a sensitivity of 91.23% and a specificity of 100%. Aren’t sure what it means? We gotchu, okay! Sensitivity measures how often a test correctly generates a positive result, while specificity measures how often a test correctly generates a negative result. This is the reason why this test kit is only suitable for a screening test. To be safe with your results, get a confirmatory test at your nearest health facilities.

a. How To Use Salixium COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test

After doing all of the 12 steps correctly, you should be getting your results in 10-15 minutes. They will be shown with lines next to the letters C and T. Results that are more than 15 minutes can appear inaccurate, so to be safe read the results within the time given.

After following all the steps, how do you indicate the results? If you are:

  • Negative:  a red line appears next to ‘C’
  • Positive: a red line appears next to ‘C’ and you see a line next to ‘T’ (even if it’s faded)
  • Invalid: No red line next to ‘C’. Even if you see something next to ‘T. If this happens, you need to take another test to have proper results.
