The Most Iconic Moments In Academy Awards History!

by Community Manager ‎25-02-2019 09:51 AM - edited ‎25-02-2019 10:40 AM

Award season is here! Now that the Oscars are around the corner, everyone wants to know “Which movie’s winning Best Picture?”, “Will Rami Malek win Best Actor for his performance in Bohemain Rhapsody?”, or “Who will win Best Original Song, All the Stars or Shallow?” But the most important question remains, “Will there be another iconic moment in award show history?”

There  has been no shortage of famous moments in Oscar history. From Ellen’s famous selfie to John Travolta calling Idina Menzel “Adele Dazeem”, each year has brought something that went down in Oscar history. Check out some of the most iconic moments in the previous years.

 Ellen’s most RT tweet

One of the most iconic and record-breaking moments came when Ellen gathered a group of some of the most famous A-list movie stars for a selfie. Meryl Streep. Jennifer Lawrence. Bradley Cooper. Brad Pitt. Angelina Jolie. Julia Roberts. Channing Tatum. The list goes on. Anyone who’s anyone was in this picture. Within 35 minutes, the selfie became the most RT tweet in history, gathering close to 3.3 MILLION retweets. The selfie actually BROKE the internet, since the high traffic to Twitter rendered the platform inaccessible for the rest of the world.

To this day, it’s still 3rd on the list of most RT tweets in the history of Twitter.

Jennifer Lawrence can’t stop falling at the Oscars.

One of the most famous moments in Academy Awards history is Jennifer Lawrence tripping over her dress. But did you know this isn’t the first time she fell down as the Oscars? Jennifer tripped on the way to receive her award for Best Actress for her role in the rom-com Silver Lining Playbook. Fast forward a year and guess what happened? She accidentally trips over a cone at the red carpet of the 2014 Academy Awards.

Someone get her an award for the most relatable (and clumsiest) movie star!

“The Best Picture award goes to... I don’t know.”

What happens when you announce the wrong winner for The Best Picture award in front of an audience full of movie stars and a live TV broadcast to nearly 33million viewers? Oscar drama. Initially, the award was given to La La Land, with the cast and crew member all cheering and jumping with joy.Yet in a shocking turn of events, it was announced by producer Jordan Horowitz that there's been a mistake- Moonlight was the actual winner. The whole thing was a mess. At least Ryan Gosling thought it was funny.

That's not my name.

John Travolta announced Idina Menzel  to sing onstage by calling her "Adele Dazeem". The singer was supposed to sing the famous Frozen anthem ‘Let It Go’ when John Travolta totally botch her name, with something that didn’t even sound remotely close. Luckily, Idina chose to Let It Go and continued with her performance.

Nicole Kidman claps like a… seal?

Nicole Kidman seems like one of those people who can do no wrong. Yet, questions had risen regarding the way she... claps. Footage shows her clapping with only her palms touching, not her fingers. Like… a… seal. The motion and movement of her arms also seemed super weird. Later on, she explained that she didn't want to damage her diamond rings. Next time keep the rings at home Nicole, you’re already beautiful enough.

With the 91st Academy Awards on Monday, what do you think will be the next big iconic moment?
