How Far We Have Come!

by Community Manager on ‎16-05-2020 07:23 PM

Happy World Telecommunication Day everyone! Today we celebrate all the things that have been made possible with the use of the Internet and other communication technologies!

So much has changed in such a short time that when you look back 10, 20 years in the past, it seems like a whole different era when you see how far we have progressed in terms of the applications and platforms we use today. So let's compare some of the different ways we communicate nowadays to the past!

1. Hailing a cab vs Calling a Grab

The fact that there might be a day where those red taxis on our streets disappear forever is a shocking realization to many.

10 years ago, there was no way to "call" or book a ride without walking to the side of the street and waving your hand. The fact that we can instantly get a ride to wherever we want within SECONDS now shows how much technology has improved our lives.

2. Mailing a letter in a post vs Texting

There are kids, or even TEENAGERS, nowadays that have never seen a postage stamp in their lives. And their parents were the ones who COLLECTED stamps.

The rise in smartphones brands like Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo and others in the past few years has meant that everyone can get a phone at affordable prices. Gone are the days of physically walking to the post office, sending in a letter and having to wait weeks for a reply from your bestie. Today, WhatsApp is all you need to get the message across!

3. Phone calls vs Video calls

And with the emergence of smartphones comes different features like video calls.

Who knew that just by adding a camera, you can see who you're calling and chatting with. FaceTime, Skype, Discord, there are endless programs, apps and platforms to meet your friends and family members from around the world virtually!

4. Express your emotions vs Emojis

4.png

Even when you miss your loved ones, who are not nearby, it's easy to show your appreciation and affection virtually!

Emojis and animojis allow you to express your feelings more than ever. Facial features are captured so precisely that you can even cartoonize a pimple!

5. Reading book vs E-learning

5.png

All 7 Harry Potter books? No problem! All 3 volumes of Lord Of The Rings? Piece of Cake! Gone are the days of physical books and flipping pages, now it's IPads and swiping left.

If you’re trying to find sources or references for a research project, everything is online. If you wanna know how to cook that delicious ratatouille dish you once saw in a movie, just search it up! When a library room can be turned into a small device capable of fitting into a backpack, it just shows how much of a leap in terms of technology and innovation we have made over the past 20 years.

The world is changing so fast that in the next 5 years, we’ll probably see new inventions and solutions to our current problems right now. Celebrate World Telecommunication Day with the #FreedomToInternet!
