At the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC), GSMA Mobile Connect announced that it would now be available to 2 billion consumers globally.
What is this you ask?
Mobile Connect enables you to go about your digital lives and activities in a secure, convenient manner, and Telenor (yes, that’s us too) has been an active contributor to this. In 2015, Digital Global Services in Telenor Technology has technically enabled Mobile Connect in most of our Asian operations, thereby giving convenient and secure authentication to 143 million subscribers.
The need for digital services is ever increasing, and as a service provider, it is our goal to find a place in everyone’s digital life, but we have committed ourselves to enabling Mobile Connect for women specifically those six million without Internet access in Malaysia.
“Digi is happy to partner with the GSMA in a collective effort to bring mobile connectivity to more women globally. In Malaysia, six million women have yet to access the internet, and bridging the digital gender gap will help ensure these women can be active participants and contributors in the digital economy. We hope to see every Malaysian woman connected and empowered because we believe these efforts will cause a socio-economic ripple effect for the betterment of families, communities and society at large. In support of the GSMA’s Connected Women initiative, we commit to increasing the proportion of women in our mobile internet customer base in Malaysia from 42 per cent to 47 per cent by 2020,” said Digi CEO Albern Murty, in a pledge to support the Connected Women initiative.
