Received an SMS or a call from an unregistered number asking for your personal details?
Always be on alert and keep an eye on the number contacting you.
Even if the number looks right, these scammers may try to convince you that they are calling from banks, utility providers or enforcement agencies, so be extra careful when giving out your personal details.
Always check the identity of caller first before revealing anything. Ask them questions only you and your bank would know such as the last transaction on your credit card or the last four digits of your IC number.
To be safe, here are the things that you should never reveal over the phone:
- Online banking user name
- Pin number/password
- Re-registering for online banking or new application
- TAC using a number that is not yours
If the caller insists, hang up immediately and call the company’s customer service (you can get their number from its official website) and lodge a report.
You should also avoid calling numbers that are sent via SMS from unknown numbers. Instead, block the numbers to stop the SMS or calls from the same suspicious number.
