Protect Yourself Against Scams and Suspicious Websites

by Community Manager on ‎20-03-2019 10:51 AM - edited on ‎25-02-2020 04:03 PM by Community Manager

Hey suscribers!

This is a reminder to always be aware of the websites that you visit or links that require your personal information. Here are a few tips on how to keep your information safe online and not fall for scams or phishing efforts.

Tip 1: Never respond to emails or texts that asks for sensitive information.

Digi would never ask for your personal information such as credit card PIN numbers over email or SMS. Practice extra caution with anyone who requests information through such channels. Channels such as email or SMS could be potentially unsecured and unencrypted, and can also be easily faked by scammers.

Tip 2: Check the security of websites that you visit, especially if they ask for personal information.

Always look for the padlock icon on websites. This means that information you send on the website is private and secure. Safe websites start with https instead of just http.

The certificate will also allow you to check the security provided by the website.

Fraudulent websites can also copy the look and layout of a legitimate website. Therefore, it is important to always double check the website URL for the https as well as the padlock sign. A safe website means that there are less chances of your personal information being stolen.

Tip 3: Do not click on untrustworthy links.

Do not click on strange links that are sent to you. Be particularly aware of any correspondence that includes a suspicious link. Deceitful links are the most prevalent way for phishing scammers to steal your information. Many scammers add fake links into forwarded chain messages, such as those on Whatsapp. Even your trusted friends and family may unknowingly be forwarding phishing links. DO NOT click on these links.

Scammers will try to send you messages that would cause great emotional shock to you- such as a very large bill or urgent message that may cause panic. DO NOT click on links in such correspondences. In these cases, the best thing to do is to reach out to our Customer Service team to check your account.

Educate yourself and your loved ones with these tips to prevent falling for a scam.

Stay safe online! Check here if you think you have encountered a scam. If you have encountered a scam that is not listed here, please report the matter to us.
