Did you hear about the WannaCry ransomware attack that recently affected more than 150 countries and major organisations?
Currently, security experts are preparing for more attacks worldwide, and that means we are NOT EXCLUDED from taking precaution.
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia has also provided preventive measures for all users to protect your computers from ransomwear attacks.
What is ransomware? Ransomware is a malicious malware that blocks access to your computer, system or data and demands money to release it. Ransomware can be spread hidden within Word documents, PDF files or other files sent via email.
Make sure you follow these steps: 1. Perform regular backups of all important information to limit the impact of data or system loss. This also helps to improve recovery process. All data should be stored on separate device and offline backups. 2. Maintain up-to-date anti-virus software. 3. Keep operating system and software updated with the latest patches. 4. Do not follow random web links in emails. You should also be very careful when opening email attachments. Find out how to detect scam links here. 5.
