Are you Huawei or Samsung?

First of all, apologies to fans of other brands like HTC, LG, OPPO, OnePlus, Xiaomi, etc... Smiley Very Happy

But really, Samsung and Huawei are the top Android brands in the market at the moment...

We can say that Huawei's rise  started around it's P9 -- when they started to work with Leica. From then on, they have been leading in terms of value for money (lower price for high end specs), camera performance, etc...

Samsung's slide was around the same time. Not helped that they had the explosive Note 7 issue...  But with the last year's Note 9 , Samsung was being aggresive in terms of its pricing (can get a brand new Note 9 for less than rm3k when it was launched).  But it was still lagging in terms of camera  performance...

It looks like S10 series is putting Samsung back at the top for camera performance.

So, are you excited about the S10 series?  Or are you going to go with Huawei (new P series expected around April)? Or just stick to Xiaomi Mi 9 since it's also at the top for camera performance?

What phones would you like to see Digi offer (bundled into the device plan)?

If I take selfie scores in consideration, a Samsung phone would do pretty decent for both front and back camera. I wonder what's stopping Huawei from getting higher selfie scores. Hmm..

I wished Samsung would improve upon their camera features. In most cases, Samsung's take on 'Portrait' mode (a.k.a. 'bokeh' with subject in focus and background blurred - is still very poor. Not being able to adjust exposure on those modes are unacceptable, and the edge-processing of subjects is still bad - compared to Huawei's excellent Leica-processed algorithm. Samsung also still doesn't allow you to use the 'bokeh' mode in the standard angle camera, but only with the limited Zoom lens (similar to Apple), but Huawei does 'bokeh' now nearly perfect even with just the standard angle camera.

Even with the latest S10 series now, there is basically no redeeming feature for its camera. The only improvement over the Note 9 / S9+ is the additional ultra wide angle lense, which is just a copycat feature taken from LG and Huawei.

All in all, the S10 series will be quickly overshadowed by the upcoming Huawei P30 Pro, which is rumoured (and even marketed) to have an amazing super-zoom with no loss in quality. Now, this is what you call a revolutionary feature.

Seems like Samsung is just playing catch-up to Huawei at the moment.

Looks like the Samsung Fold's 'disaster' isn't exactly helping Samsung at the moment. And Huawei's own foldable display phone, the Mate X, should be released very soon. Exciting times ahead! Smiley Very Happy
