The biggest sporting event of the year has finally arrived, so you’ll want to equip yourself with facts about our local sports scene. Don’t worry, we’ve listed down some cool sport-sy facts that will leave you sounding like a sports pro!

Did you know? Badminton is the Fastest Racket Sport is the world with shuttle clocking speed in excess of 200 mph.That’s 2x the speed of a top speed cheetah!

Did you know? Datuk Soh Chin Aun was the youngest player to be part of the national team at 21 and was often referred to as "Tauke" (boss) by his teammates because of his commanding presence in the field? He also lead his team in the 1980 Summer Olympics held in Moscow.

Did you know? The newly renovated Bukit Jalil Stadium (last used for the 1998 Commonwealth Games) will witness both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2017 SEA Games.

Did you know? There will be an estimated 8,000 athletes and officials from 11 countries who will participate in the 2017 SEA Games. In comparison the 2016 Olympics in RIO had 11,237 participating athletes.


Did you know? Datuk Nicol David has 8 Open World Titles! She is also the first squash player to have won the World Junior title twice; in 1999 and 2001 under the tutelage of Richard Glanfield. She remained the only female squash player to have achieved this! Isn’t that amazing?
